The main purpose of the role is to act as an individual contributor in the field of production geology within a multi-functional team as part of an Operated Coal Seam Gas (CSG) producing Asset.

The QGC asset currently operates thousands of CSG wells with associated upstream and midstream facilities. The asset currently produces and provides feedstock to the Shell-operated QCLNG facility as well as the domestic market. QGC is an exciting asset with both future well and infrastructure projects to deliver, as well as a significant operated brownfield development with scope to optimise.

You will work within the multi-functional Integrated Reservoir Modelling (IRM) team, as part of the wider Technical organisation in Shell Australia’s QGC asset, under the overall leadership of the IRM Manager.

What’s the role?

You will be entrusted to:

  • Apply geoscience expertise and professional judgment to support technical projects and studies.

  • Contribute to technical analyses and recommendations at peer reviews, peer assists and functional reviews as part of the value assurance framework.

  • Support the generation of reliable prognoses in support of safe and efficient well-delivery and well-abandonment operations.

  • Work with experienced geologists to deliver static subsurface reservoir characterisation for CSG reservoirs.

  • Ensure appropriate reservoir uncertainties are identified and incorporated into multi scenario modelling workstreams, targeted appraisal and development plans.

  • Support delivery of geoscience elements of Shell Australia’s East Coast assets’ FDPs and support delivery of subsurface workstreams ensuring functional/technical consistency across teams.

  • Ensure all own evaluations are documented and related data are handled in accordance with relevant technical standards and recording labelling obligations.

What we need from you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A degree in Geological sciences (required)

  • Geoscience skills covering:

  • Reservoir characterisation, ideally with familiarity of CSG developments

  • Lithostratigraphic well correlations

  • The foundations of static reservoir modelling

  • Knowledge of Well, Reservoir and Facility Management (WRFM)

  • Experience with volumetric estimation

  • Well planning and delivery (new and P&A wells)

  • Preference for applicants with Petrel software skills. Demonstrated experience in coding such as Python at any level will be highly valued.

  • Collaborative mindset and experience in the delivery of integrated multi-disciplinary technical work. Have full appreciate diversity and to have excellent interpersonal skills; with ability to operate in a fluid environment and will need to rely on drive, personal experience, and judgment, with the support of the larger subsurface community.

  • Ability to demonstrate strong written and verbal skills and can explain why this is important to the business. Be able to demonstrate the applicability of their competencies to CSG developments and to the definition and reduction of subsurface uncertainties within this reservoir type.

  • Be keen to grow their geology skills in a major fast-paced asset.

  • Enjoy problem solving, with an eye for delivery of robust technical studies and a well-developed team-working mentality. Track record of being solution driven.

  • Have a high level of personal integrity and transparency with a learner mindset.
